Samsung Galaxy Unpacked Part 2: Everything announced at the October 20 event

Samsung took to its Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event livestream today to announce new variants of the already-existing devices. Unlike other Unpacked events where Samsung launches its flagship devices like the Galaxy S or the Galaxy Z series, the Unpacked Part 2 event revealed a new Galaxy Z Flip 3, Galaxy Buds 2, and Galaxy Watch 4. The latter is also receiving new features. Here’s everything announced at the Galaxy Unpacked Part 2 event.

Samsung announced a new way to let users customize their mobile devices that “allows consumers to express their unique personalities through technology.” You can now design your own Galaxy Z Flip 3 using the Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Studio at Samsung.com. The Studio is an engaging experience that provides a 360-degree preview of combinations.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition owners can also register to replace their device panel with new colors at Samsung.com. You can mix and match by choosing phone frame options of Black or Silver, and front and back colors of Pink, White, Black, or the new colors of Blue and Yellow. There are up to 49 possible combinations to choose from.

Samsung says that it researched current and future color trends and analyzed sociocultural trends to anticipate changes in customers’ preferences and needs. Once the order is placed, devices are tailor-made and arrive in special edition packaging with a Bespoke Edition wallpaper and Cover Screen that matches the device’s colors for a fully coordinated look.

The Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition and Galaxy Watch 4 Bespoke Edition will be available in Korea, the U.S., U.K., Germany, France, Canada, and Australia starting today, October 20 for $1099.99. It also comes with 12 months of Samsung Care+ protection. Customers can get a $600 trade-in credit towards their Galaxy Z Flip 3 Bespoke Edition.

Samsung is rolling out more watch faces and complications to choose from. You get four new watch faces ranging from looking at the information at a glance or looking at your health stats. You can customize the new Info Brick watch face with stats ranging from heart rate and stress to daily activity status. The users can also choose a watch face that displays an in-depth weather forecast, a basic dashboard, or live wallpapers inspired by Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3.

You can also mix and match up to four complications to display on your Animals watch face – from battery life to reminders, messages, your step count, and much more. The users can also choose a moving GIF for their My Photo+ watch face, rather than just a static photo.  The latest update to Galaxy Watch 4 also brings more playful animations to your Steps Challenge watch face for keeping track of how you’re doing in your step challenge. An animated bear will follow you for every step of your competition.

Samsung is also adding more gesture controls to its latest smartwatch. You can move your forearm up and down twice to receive calls and rotate your wrist twice to reject calls or dismiss alarms. The update brings a new hand motion that can act as a helpful shortcut to activate a chosen app or feature. You get a “knock-knock” motion to open a pre-selected app, open the list of workouts, turn on a light or even create a new reminder.

You can now also adjust the sensitivity of fall detection so the Galaxy Watch 4 is capable of detecting a fall even when you’re standing still. The wearable can send out an SOS notification to up to four pre-selected contacts. Samsung is also offering a 60-day free Strava subscription for the Galaxy Watch users.

Samsung is partnering with Paris-meets-Tokyo lifestyle brand Maison Kitsuné on two new special-edition wearables — the Galaxy Watch 4 Maison Kitsuné Edition and the Galaxy Buds 2 Maison Kitsuné Edition. A refined new hue, Moonrock Beige, was also created specifically for the collaboration.

“We are ecstatic to be bringing our distinct style and iconic Fox logo to Samsung Galaxy wearable designs,” said Maison Kitsuné co-founder Gildas Loaëc. “We loved the idea of the Maison Kitsuné Fox traversing the galaxy and we had a lot of fun coming up with the new Moonrock Beige color and other subtle motifs and design elements that illustrate the Fox’s journey through time and space.”

The Galaxy Watch 4 Maison Kitsuné Edition comes with Moonrock Beige straps and dedicated engravings. It also includes an additional custom Stardust Gray strap featuring the Maison Kitsuné lettering. The Galaxy Buds 2 Maison Kitsuné Edition also comes in Moonrock Beige and are housed in a Stardust Gray leather case that has an embedded Maison Kitsuné Fox Head logo. Additionally, consumers can install the exclusive Maison Kitsuné phone theme by tagging an in-box NFC card of the Galaxy Watch 4 Maison Kitsuné Edition or the case of the Galaxy Buds 2 Maison Kitsuné Edition.

The Galaxy Buds 2 Maison Kitsuné Edition will be available for $249.99 and Galaxy Watch 4 Maison Kitsuné Edition will be released as a 40mm Bluetooth model for $399.99. Both devices can be ordered starting today, October 20 in select markets.
